After a few exciting days in London and Oxford, it is time to head north and find some quiet. Malfoy manor, a secret hiding place, Hogsmeade and Hogwarts await your visit. You could spend the nights in Malham and Alnwick.

Hardwick Hall

"Dobby is a free elf, and Dobby has come to save Harry Potter and his friends."

The Malfoys resided in Hardwick Hall, which was digitally modified. Snape's entry scene in the seventh movie took place here.

Malham Cove

"It is not a rune. And it is nowhere in Spellman's Syllabary."

After being left by Ron, Harry and Hermione apparate to Malham Cove, where they hide from Voldemort. In the movie Harry discovers an engraving on his golden snitch - "I open at the close". Harry tells Hermione, who is rather interested in the strange triangular eye in her inherited book. At that moment, none of them realises the magnitude of  their discoveries.

Goathland

"Come on now first years, don't be shy."

A place that will make your heart beat faster. After an enjoyable ride from Malham you will arrive in Goathland, a village with 407 inhabitants. No muggle would ever suspect a train station packed with young wizards and witches in Goathland. In order to keep muggles unaware of magic the sign is enchanted to read "Warehouse Tea Room" instead of Hogsmeade.

At this very place Hagrid welcomes and says goodbye to Harry in his first years at Hogwarts.

Durham Cathedral

"That was bloody brilliant!"

Well, thank you for that assessment, Mr Weasley.

Harry and Ron run through this corridor to attend their first transfiguration class. Unfortunately, Prof. McGonagall had already started the lesson, which takes place in the "Chapter House". Take a glance through the window. In the yard the beautiful scene with Harry and Hedwig in winter was filmed, although they have slightly changed the fountain in the centre.

Alnwick Castle

"Stick out your right hand over your broom and say 'Up!' ”

Harry's first flying lesson with Madame Hooch helps him get into the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. At Alnwick Castle they offer flying lessons, too. But don't expect too much, as they are taught by muggles. Alnwick Castle served as filming location for exterior view shots of Hogwarts in the first two movies. You can also find the spot where Ron mocks Hermione into tears, which -as we all know- is the beginning of a great friendship.
