The beautiful city of Oxford is worth a visit even without Harry Potter's magic. Beautiful buildings, cafés by the water, stunning parks and small streets that invite you to long strolls.

If you want to spend a night in Oxford I can recommend the Oxford Backpackers Hostel, (Sleep here button) which central location allows you to discover Oxford by foot.

There is a fan-shop selling butter beer. You should definately buy a few !

Christ Church College

"Welcome to Hogwarts"

Prof. McGonagall welcomes the first years on the staircase that leads to the great hall. The staircase is also seen when Harry, Ron and Hermione are reunited after Harry's stay at the hospital wing, which was due to his fight with Prof. Quirrell and Voldemort. In the second movie Harry is dragged into Tom Riddle's memory, witnessing Tom's conversation with Dumbledore. Hogwarts' great hall was inspired by the great hall you can find here, although the lack of ghosts and flying candles is quite disappointing.

Check if there are exams before visiting - you will not be allowed to go up the stairs.

Bodleian Library

“Harry — I think I've just understood something! I've got to go to the library!”

Built on top of the Divinity School, the room called "Duke Humpfrey's Library" was visited by an invisible Harry searching the fobidden section for information about Nicholas Flamel.

Try the guided tour which includes the library and Divinity School to learn some muggle stuff - espacially the story about the rivalry between Oxford and Cambridge is quite entertaining.

Divinity School

"Place your right hand on my waist."

The Divinity School served as the hospital wing in the first movie. Dumbledore visits Harry and tries -defying his youth memories- a Bertie Bott's Bean. At least ear wax is an improvement to vomit.

Equally hilarious is the dancing scene in the fourth movie. Prof.McGonagall asks Ron to assist her with demonstrating the dance for the yule ball, earning Ron some wolf-whistling from his elder brothers.

New College

"Prof. Moody, what are you doing?"

"Teaching."

"Is that a student?!"

At New College you can relive the moment when Malfoy shows Harry his "Potter Stinks" badge. But karma strikes quickly. Under the tree in the yard Malfoy tries to attack Harry, making Moody transfigure Malfoy into a white ferret.
